Mr Smith's Delight A Progressive Forty Bar Strathspey For Four Couples In A Square Set. Jennifer Kelly1 - 2 All four couples set to partners and turn with two hands, opening out, back to back, to face corners.
5 - 8 All set to corners and turn halfway with two hands, opening out to face the centre of the set, nearer hands joined, on a diagonal line. The ladies are on the right of their corners. The shape of the set should now be a diamond.
9 - 12 All advance and retire, one step in each direction, twice. Finish facing this partner.
13 -14 Set advancing to pass corner partner by the left shoulder.
15 -16 Turn original partner by the right hand into promenade hold, facing clockwise. All four couples are in their original places, on a St. George's cross.
17 - 20 Allemande halfway around the set.
21 - 24 All four ladies dance half a ladies' chain. Men cast. On bars 3 and 4 of the phrase, all four men turn the ladies from the opposite side of the set into promenade hold, facing clockwise.
25 - 28 Continue the allemande to return the men to their original places.
29 - 30 All dance half a ladies' chain to return to original partners.
31 - 32 Turn partner by the left hand to finish with all four couples beside their partners, facing into the set.
33 - 34 All advance and retire.
35 - 38 All dance in towards the center of the set for one step, pull back the right shoulder, and, with the men leading, each couple casts one place clockwise.
39 - 40 All advance and retire, one step, giving right hands briefly to partner.
Repeat the dance from the new place in the set.
