Nancy's Fancy
Scottish Country Dance Instruction
Nancy's Fancy A 32 bar strathspey for a three couple set. Maureen Morris 19891- 2 First and third couple cross over giving right hands, whilst second couple turns with the right hand for three quarters of a turn.
3- 6 Second woman dances up and casts around first woman's position, whilst second man dances down and casts around third man's position. At the same time, first woman and third man face each other diagonally and set twice.
7- 8 Second couple turn with the left hand to face their first corners (who are on the opposite sides of the dance).
Meanwhile, 1st and 3rd women, also 1st and 3rd men, change places on the side giving right hands.
9-14 Corner-partner setting for second couple (finishes with the 2nd couple facing each other up and down the dance).
15-16 Using both hands, second couple dance a three-quarter turn to finish facing down on opposite sides of the dance.
17-18 2nd and 1st couples circle halfway around to the left only, whilst the 3rd couple (now in first position) cross back to their own sides.
19-20 All set.
21-24 All turn, using both hands to do so.
25-32 All dance six hands round and back again. (The couples in first and third position [original 3rd and 2nd couple respectively] need to "open out" to incorporate the central couple [original 1st couple] successfully. This movement requires careful phrasing.)
Repeat twice more from new positions.
(Dance crib compiled by the deviser, Maureen Morris, 1989)
