OUR COMPLIMENTS TO JOHN RENTON (S3x32) 3C Set Stephen Webb, 2022

1- 8 1s ½ turn RH and retain hands (2s step up), 1s cross down, dance behind 3s and cast up, meet in centre and lead up LH to face 1st corners
9-16 1s dance Corner pass and turn with 1st corners (corners turn 2H), pass RSh and dance Corner pass and turn with 2nd corners. End: 1s in middle opposite sides facing down, 2s at top and 3s at bottom facing up, all in prom hold with partner
17-24 2s+1s+3s dance "Circulating Allemande":
 2s and 3s dance normal Allemande but end in 3rd/1st place as 1s Allemande (down) and up, pull back RSh and dance out to 2nd place opposite sides. 3(1)2
25-32 1M casts down, 1L casts up to 1M between 2s at bottom, 1L between 3s at top, 1s set advancing; 1s ½ turn RH to face each other and Petronella turn to 2nd place own side. 312

Our Compliments to John Renton 32 bar strathspey for three couples in a three-couple longwise set. Stephen Webb

1- 2 1st couple turn right halfway, retain hold and face down, 2nd couple step up.
3- 6 1st couple giving right hand cross over and dance through between 2nd couple and 3rd couple and cast off to below 3rd couple.
7- 8 1st couple meet and giving left hands lead up to face 1st corners. 2(1)3.
9-12 1st couple and 1st corners dance Corners Pass and Turn with corners giving both hands. 1st couple give right shoulders in passing to face 2nd corners.
13-15 1st couple and 2nd corners dance corners pass and turn with corners giving both hands.
16 1st couple finish in the middle on opposite sides in 2nd place facing down as 2nd and 3rd couples dance into the middle to face up, with 2nd corners curving into place on bar 16 of corners pass and turn. 2(1)3.
17-24 2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance a Circulating Allemande for three couples 2nd and 3rd couples dance as first and third couples of a standard three-couple allemande to finish in third and first places on own sides. At the same time, 1st couple, from second place, dance an allemande but dance out to men's side and down to begin except on bars 7 and 8, 1st couple cast away pulling right shoulder back to the opposite side to finish facing out, 3(1)2.
25-26 1st couple cast to their right to finish across with first man between 2nd couple and first woman between 3rd couple.
27-28 1st couple set advancing up and down towards each other.
29-30 1st couple turn right hand halfway round, releasing hands and pulling right shoulders back to remain facing up and down in the middle of the dance.
31-32 1st couple Petronella out to second place on own side to face in. 312.

This dance, Our Compliments To John Renton, was devised by Stephen Webb for John Renton, musician, band leader, composer and good egg living in Inveraray, who reached the milestone of eighty years on 27 September 2022.

This dance appreciates his friendship and acknowledges his great contribution to RSCDS and SCD in general through his love of Scottish music.
