This dance was devised by Lucy Mulholland and dedicated to the NHS.A pacemaker is a medical device designed to regulate and control the rhythm of the heart.
It is typically implanted under the skin, usually in the chest area, and connected to the heart via leads. The primary function of a pacemaker is to monitor the heart's electrical activity and, when necessary, send electrical impulses to stimulate the heart muscles, ensuring a regular and steady heartbeat. This intervention is crucial for individuals with irregular heartbeats or bradycardia (a slow heart rate), as it helps maintain an appropriate heart rate and prevents complications associated with inadequate blood circulation.
Modern pacemakers are equipped with advanced features such as rate-responsive pacing, allowing them to adjust the heart rate based on the individual's activity level.
While advancements in cardiac care have introduced other interventions, pacemakers remain a standard and effective treatment for various cardiac conditions, contributing significantly to the management of heart rhythm disorders.
