Rothesay Country Dance - Scottish Country Dancing Instruction VideoDance Information
Rothesay Country Dance is a traditional dance of unknown date, collected in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute and published by the RSCDS in Book 6 in 1930.The original tune is Dumfries House, attributed to J. Riddell and dating from 1766. The original edition of Book 6 also suggested the pipe tune Donald's Awa' To The War.
Rothesay is the principal town on the Isle of Bute, lying on the shore of Rothesay Bay, Scotland.
The town grew around Rothesay Castle, which dates from the 13th century, and was made a royal burgh in 1400. During the Victorian era Rothesay developed into a popular seaside resort, particularly for visitors arriving by steamer from Glasgow and other towns on the Clyde.
