Dance Information

Ruthin is a small historic market town located in Denbighshire, North Wales, situated in the picturesque Vale of Clwyd.

The town is known for its rich history, spanning over 700 years, and is associated with significant events such as scandal, battle, and siege. Ruthin serves as the administrative centre of Denbighshire and is characterized by its charming and historic attractions.

The town's name "Ruthin" is derived from the Welsh words "rhudd" (red) and "din" (fort), which alludes to the red sandstone found in the area and used in the construction of Ruthin Castle. The castle, dating back to 1277-1284, is a prominent historical site in the town.

Ruthin features a town square with a circular garden in the middle, surrounded by old buildings, including the old courthouse, a timber-framed building from the 14th century. The square also houses Maen Huail, a large boulder steeped in legend, and the parish church of St Peter, known for its medieval architecture and a 16th-century roof.

The town also hosts events such as a week-long music festival and the Ruthin Flower Show with a carnival parade and is home to one of the largest cattle and sheep auction markets in Wales.
