Scottish Country Dance Instruction
Smiling Joan 4x32 Strathspey, Neville Pope1-4 1st and 2nd couples cross and cast 2 places while 3rd and 4th couples set and dance up two places. 3rd couple and 4th lady dance the short way into the side lines. 4th man pulls back left shoulder to dance into the following figure.
5-8 4th and 1st couples dance left hands across while 3rd and 2nd couples turn partners halfway round to finish in the middle facing each other, then pulling back right shoulder dance out to the opposite side. (2nd and 3rd ladies loop to enter the following reel.) (3), 4, (1), 2
9-12 All dance a half reel of four (right shoulder) on the sides. On bar 12, 1st couple pull back left shoulder to face down. Finish 2, (1), 4, (3)
13-16 1st, 4th and 3rd couples dance a half reel of three, 4th and 3rd couples passing RS to begin. Finish 2, (3), 4, (1).
17-20 2nd couple facing 3rd and 4th couple facing 1st on the side (as for reel of 4), all set with Highland Schottische (or set twice with common Schottische).
21-24 2nd couple with 3rd couple and 4th couple with 1st couple dance half a ladies' chain. Finish on the side, facing in, with partner in promenade hold, 2nd and 4th couples on the men's side and 3rd and 1st couples on the ladies' side.
25-32 3rd and 2nd couples, 1st and 4th couples dance in to form a line up and down the dance with the men shoulder to shoulder and dance the tournée.
Repeat from new positions.

Dance Information
Joan and Danny Sibbald have been long time dancers in Adelaide.Joan passed away in 2014, but will long be remembered for her sunny smile and cheerful outlook.
