Dance Notes

Version 2. If you really want to have a stranded feel to this dance, it can have a different ending:

Bars 25-28 1+4 Couples do the setting and advancing to one another, i.e., then do the cast movement down to new places and turn partners RH bars 29-32. This leaves 2C Stranded in 2nd place for the whole dance!

Getting into position for the three-couple Bourrel is the thing that is a little unconventional in this dance, but I liked the look of this movement after spending lots of time observing the waves gently rolling onto the shore around the rocks at the Sawtell beach, and other beaches around Coffs Harbour.

Dance Information

After the travel restrictions to Australia lifted, Damon and I planned a trip to Coffs Harbour for June 2021. It had been 18 months since we had visited our family there, due to Covid, and we couldn't wait to see the grandchildren and our son and daughter-in-law. We left New Zealand on June 8th. Then, just four days before we were due to return home, disaster struck, and NZ closed its doors as the Delta strain was spreading in NSW.
During the subsequent NSW lockdown, we were in touch with lots of family and friends back home and one dancer, Glenna James, suggested I devise a dance; well, I couldn't refuse - I had plenty of time!

Glenna loves the three-couple Bourrel and the Espagnole and asked could they be part of the dance. Stranded in Sawtell is the result. Glenna also chose the music for the dance, which fits well.

Recommended Tune: CD: Dancer's Choice Volume 1 Marian Anderson and her Band, Track 6 Mid Fodderletter.
