Scottish Country Dance Instruction

A Study In Blue 8x40 Strathspey for 3C Sue McKinnell

1- 8 1C and 2C dance the bourrel. In the last 2 bars, 1C turn both hands and pull RS back to end facing 1st corners.
9-12 1C and 1st corners dance a half diagonal reel of 4 while 2nd corners chase CW halfway. 1C end by passing RS to face 2nd corner positions.
13-16 1C and 2nd corners dance a half diagonal reel of 4 while 1st corners chase CW halfway. 1C end by passing RS to face partner's 1st corners.
17-24 1C and 1st corners set then 1C cast to their right to end in the corner position behind them while 1st corners dance forward and pull RS back to face the corner from which they came. 1C and 1st corners set then 1st corners cast to their right to end in the corner position behind them while 1C dance forward and pull RS back to face partner's 2nd corners.
25-32 1C and 2nd corners repeat bars 17-24 to end with corners in diagonally opposite positions and 1C facing out on opposite sides.
33-40 1C cast right to end 1W between 2C all facing down and 1M between 3C all facing up while 3C and 2C cross RH.
 All cross LH up and down.
 1C cast left to 2nd place on own sides while 2C and 3C advance for 1 step and retire for 1 step.
 All set.

Repeat.

In early 2024 when we decided to make the 2025 Chicago Ball a 45th Anniversary (Sapphire) celebration, I wrote this and another dance in honor of that event.
