A Toast to Meike

Medley 4 x (S32 + R32) bars 4 Couple Repeat 4 Couple Set Longwise Set

Strathspey:

  1-2   1s turn ¾ by the right, moving down to finish in 2nd position on the centre line, L above M, WHILE 2s step up;

  3-8   1s dance la baratte up and down the centre line, finishing facing partner's first corner;

  9-12 1s dance half diagonal reel of 4 with first corners, passing right shoulder to finish facing partner's second corner;

13-16 1s dance half diagonal reel of 4 with second corners, passing right shoulder to finish facing first corner position;

17-20 second corners chase clockwise halfway around the (3-couple) set WHILE 1s dance pass and turn with first corners, passing right shoulder to finish facing second corners;

21-24 first corners chase clockwise halfway around the (3-couple) set WHILE 1s dance pass and turn with second corners, passing right shoulder to finish 2s1s3s on own sides;

25-32 2s1s3s 6 hands round and back.

Reel:

33-64 Repeat bars 1-32 of the strathspey, 3s dancing as 2s, 4s as 3s.

Dance Notes

Note that this dance can be considered as having the format of a 3-couple repeat in a 4-couple set but danced in Strathspey tempo for the odd-numbered repeats and Reel for the evens.

  1-2   In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th repeats, the former 1s cast to 4th place WHILE the former 4s step up.

17-24 In the (strathspey tempo) pass and turn, the corners turn with both hands.

49-56 In the (reel tempo) pass and turn, the corners turn, conventionally, with right hands.
