The Turtles Of Tarragona - Scottish Country Dancing Instruction VideoDance Information
The title comes from visiting Tarragona for the 2025 Iberian weekend.Apart from all the dancing I had expected to enjoy visiting various Roman ruins: the amphitheatre, theatre, forum, circus, praetorium and city walls. The cathedral is also impressive with its own archaeology display and a lovely cloister.
The unexpected feature was a small pond in the cloister containing a handful of turtles. However there is no link between those turtles and the palindromic choreography I was thinking about at the time.
Recommended music: Suitable recording: possibly Culloden Links (Colin Dewar and his SDB: Inverness Diamond Jubilee).

Tarragona Cathedral stands at the highest point of the old city of Tarragona in Catalonia, Spain.
The site has been a place of worship for many centuries. Archaeological and historical evidence shows that it was previously occupied by a Roman temple, later by a Visigothic Christian church, and afterwards by a mosque during the period of Muslim rule. The present cathedral began to take shape in the late twelfth century and was consecrated in 1331. It was declared a national monument in 1905.
The building is an important example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic architecture. Its ground plan follows the shape of a Latin cross and includes three aisles, a prominent transept and an octagonal dome. The main façade combines Romanesque and Gothic features, with a large rose window above the entrance. Inside, the cathedral contains artistic and architectural elements from several periods, reflecting centuries of additions and alterations. Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque influences can all be seen within the structure.
One of the cathedral's most notable features is its cloister, built during the late twelfth and early thirteenth centuries. Like the cathedral itself, it displays a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic styles, with carved capitals, decorative arches and a rich collection of medieval stonework. The cathedral complex also preserves evidence of the earlier Roman occupation of the site, illustrating more than two thousand years of continuous religious and civic importance in Tarragona. Today it remains one of the city's most significant historic monuments and a major example of medieval architecture in Catalonia.
