THE WAGGLE O' THE KILT (J8x40) 3C (4C set) James B. Cosh 22 SCDs

1- 8 1s cast 1 place and lead down between 3s, cast up to 2nd place and turn LH to end BtoB facing own sides
9-16 1s dance RH across (1M with 2M+3M and 1L with 2L+3L), 1s passing RSh dance RH across with other side (1s end facing 1st corners)
17-24 1s dance ½ diagonal reel of 4 with 1st corners and pass LSh, ½ reel of 4 with 2nd corners and end facing 3rd corner (position)
25-32 1s+3rd corners ½ turn RH and corners turn LH 1½ times in centre to face opposite corner, 1s+corners ½ turn RH and 1s turn LH to face 4th corners
33-40 1s+4th corners ½ turn RH and corners turn LH 1½ times in centre to face opposite corner, 1s+corners ½ turn RH and 1s turn LH to 2nd place. 213

Jig 8 x 40 bars 3 Couple Repeat 4 Couple Set Longwise Set

  1-4   1s cast and lead down between 3s;

  5-8   1s cast up and turn by the left, finishing near the centre line, 1M facing down, 1L up;

  9-12 2M1M3M 2L3L1L right hands across;

13-16 2M1L3M 2L3L1M right hands across, 1s finishing facing first corners;

17-20 1s with first corners half diagonal reel of four;

21-24 1s with second corners half diagonal reel of four, 1s finishing facing first corners (in partners' first corners' positions);

25-26 1s turn first corners by the right halfway;

27-28 corners turn by the left 1½ times (halfway for the faint-hearted) in the centre;

29-30 1s turn partners' first corners by the right halfway;

31-32 1s turn by the left to face second corners (in partners' second corners' positions);

33-38 1s repeat bars 25-30 with second corners;

39-40 1s turn by the left, finishing in 2nd place.

Dance Notes

20-21 1s officially pass giving left shoulder between the half diagonal reels of 4 but right shoulder is more usual.

24-25 1s should pass giving left shoulder after the second half diagonal reel to facilitate turning corners by the right.

Dance Information

Note: in the picture below the "break" in the kilt at the hipline. This is the result of the kilt pleats being stitched down through the fell (that portion of the kilt from waistline to the widest portion of the hips).

The action of the kilt is an integral feature of Highland dancing.
