Dance Information

The Malt Whisky Trail, created in the early 1980s, is located in Speyside, Scotland, and features seven working distilleries, a cooperage, and a historic distillery, providing a unique opportunity to explore Scotland's whisky heritage.

Speyside is renowned for its whisky production due to the region's fertile lands, mineral-rich spring water, and cool mountain climate, which create ideal conditions for crafting Scotch whisky, making it home to over half of Scotland's distilleries.

  • Dallas Dhu Historic Distillery is a museum near Forres, preserving Victorian-era whisky production methods, with tours of its original malt barn, kiln, and other facilities.
  • Glen Moray, founded in 1897 on the banks of the River Lossie in Elgin, offers a traditional distillery experience with whisky featuring notes of butterscotch, shortbread, and lemongrass.
  • Strathisla, established in 1786 in Keith, is the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Highlands, producing Chivas Regal whiskies with a distinctive mellow honey flavour.
  • The Glenlivet, founded in 1824 in the Livet Valley, was the first licensed distillery in the area, known for its whisky's fruity pineapple note and honeyed, floral aromas.
  • Cardhu, located in Knockando, was the only malt distillery founded by a woman, Elizabeth Robertson, in 1872 and contributes to Johnnie Walker's blends.
  • Glenfiddich, built in 1887 in Dufftown by the Grant family, continues to use traditional methods to produce its single malt scotch, with tours of its stone-walled warehouses and other facilities.
  • Benromach, near Forres, was founded in 1898 and restored in 1993; it is the smallest working distillery in Speyside, offering tours of its traditional dunnage warehouse and copper stills.
  • Speyside Cooperage in Craigellachie, operating since 1947, demonstrates the traditional art of cask-making using American oak, allowing visitors to see the entire process.
  • Glen Grant, founded in 1840 near the barley-growing plains and the River Spey, offers whisky tasting and tours of its distillery, warehouse, and gardens.
