Dance Information

Arion was the name of Rodney's ketch, which he sailed to/from and round the Mediterranean for many years.

Rodney, a member of the Harrogate SCDC, was a musician which is one of the reasons for the name of his yacht. The dance was written for his 90th birthday.

Arion was a Greek poet and musician.

Arion was a kitharode in ancient Greece, a Dionysiac poet credited with inventing the dithyramb.

The islanders of Lesbos claimed him as their native son, but Arion found a patron in Periander, tyrant of Corinth.

Although notable for his musical inventions, Arion is chiefly remembered for the fantastic myth of his kidnapping by pirates and miraculous rescue by dolphins, a folktale motif.
