The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS), was founded in 1923 as the Scottish Country Dance Society by Jean Milligan and Ysobel Stewart of Fasnacloich.Ysobel Stewart (1882-1968), the third child of Colonel and Mrs Campbell of Inverneill and Ross, was brought up and educated at Inverneill House, Argyll and from 1897 to 1899 she was a pupil at St Leonard's School for girls in St Andrews, Fife.
In 1909 Miss Ysobel Campbell married Major Ian Stewart living in Ayr until 1934.
Ysobel Stewart became a Girl Guide Commissioner and wanted to collect and publish Scottish dances and to teach Scottish Country Dancing to the young women in the Guides.
The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS), was founded in 1923 as the Scottish Country Dance Society by Jean Milligan and Ysobel Stewart of Fasnacloich, who wanted to preserve country dancing as performed in Scotland.
In 1934 Major Ian Stewart retired and they both moved to Camserney Cottage near Aberfeldy (pronounced "ah-bur-fell-dee") in Perthshire. After Major Ian died in 1948 Mrs Stewart returned to Argyll.
In 1955 Mrs Stewart moved to South Africa where she had family (a niece and cousins) and so she settled in Fish Hoek near the Indian Ocean until she died there in 1968 aged 86.
