The Eden Valley
Scottish Country Dance Instruction
The Eden Valley (J8x32) 32 bar jig for three couples in a four couple longwise set. Murrough Landon 20231-4 1st couple cross over passing right shoulder. They then cast off to 2nd place as 2nd couple step up.
5-8 1st couple cross down between 3rd couple and cast up to 2nd place own side facing in. Meanwhile 2nd and 3rd couples set, then dance in to touch nearer hands facing the ends and cast back to face out on the sides.
9-16 2nd, 1st and 3rd couples dance mirror reels of three on the sides. 1st couple start in and up, 2nd couple start out and down, 3rd couple start out and up.
2nd couple end by looping into place, 1st couple end facing in and up, 3rd couple end by looping to face up. All are encouraged to join hands with their partner whenever possible.
17-24 1st couple, followed by 3rd couple, dance a complete figure of eight round the standing 2nd couple at the top. 1st couple end dancing down to 3rd place, briefly touching nearer hands, and face out. 3rd couple end in 2nd place facing in.
25-28 1st and 3rd couples turn one and a half times on the sides with the easiest hand: right on the men's side and left on the women's side. 1st couple end in 2nd place facing in. 2nd couple face down.
29-32 1st couple turn 2nd couple once round on the sides with the other hand: left on the men's side and right on the women's side. The final order is 2,1,3.
