9-16 1s+2s+3s dance mirror reels of 3 on own sides, 1s in and down to begin
17-24 1s cross RH, cast (2s step up) and turn LH to 2nd place opposite sides. 2(1)3
25-32 1s dance reels of 3 on opposite sides, 1s pass 2nd corner LSh to begin. 2(1)3
33-40 1s cross RH, cast (3s step up) and turn LH to 3rd place. 231
41-48 2s+3s+1s dance mirror reels of 3 on own sides (1s dance in and up to begin, 2s out and down)

48-bar reel for three couples in a three-couple longwise set
1 - 8 1st couple cast down own sides, turn outwards and dance back to top.
9 - 16 1st, 2nd and 3rd couples dance reflection reels of three on own sides, 1st couple dancing in and down to begin.
17 - 24 1st couple, giving right hands, cross over, cast off one place, and turn with the left hand.
25 - 32 1st couple dance reels of three on opposite sides with 2nd and 3rd couples, passing second corner by the left to begin.
33 - 40 1st couple, giving right hands, cross over, cast off one place, and turn with the left hand.
41 - 48 2nd, 3rd and 1st couples dance reflection reels of three on own sides, 1st couple dancing in and up to begin.
Repeat, having passed a couple.

This dance, Reel Of Three For Free, was devised to work on the spatial geometry of the reel of three.It was written as a reel R3x48, but it can also be danced as a strathspey S3x48.
