Scottish Country Dancing Dictionary

Opposite

The term used to describe the dancer on the other Side of The set, facing you while Standing is Opposite.

In a Scottish Country Dance Longwise set, this is your Partner at the beginning of the dance and for much of the time throughout; in a Circular set, it will usually be someone else's Partner (see Diagram 22 for an example in a Square set).
