Turn By The Right

To Turn by the right, two Scottish Country Dancers Take Right hands and proceed around each other in the natural direction (clockwise), Finishing in their Starting Positions unless the amount of Turn requires otherwise.

Unless otherwise specified, Skip change applies in Quick tempo dances. Exceptionally, Pas-de-basque is prescribed for bars 3-4 and 7-8 of J.B. Milne; as also with Turn both hands in bars 11-12 of the same dance, completing the Turn in the prescribed 2 bars is demanding; fortunately, these Turns follow Set advancing in each case and so the Dancers can advantageously make some progress around each other in the left foot step of that preceding Figure before they Take hands.

For example, here are some Scottish Country Dances in which the term, Turn By The Right, is used in either the MiniCrib or the MaxiCrib Dance instructions or both -
Burns Night
Captain White
Dance For Joy
Dance For Maisondieu
Dancing Bells
Holden Lane
Kiss Under The Stairs
Marmalade Sandwich
May You Be Dancing On Air
Miss Hadden's Reel
